Sao Paulo Surf Club
At São Paulo Surf Club, Sig Bergamin and Murilo Lomas begin with an idea rarely associated with the city: creating a sense of escape. Set along the banks of the Pinheiros River, the project brings together architecture, interiors, and landscape around water, establishing an atmosphere that feels removed from São Paulo’s relentless pace. Navy blue, nautical stripes, natural fibers, and wood recur throughout the interiors, shaping a language informed by classic coastal clubs. The references are distinctly Brazilian, yet never literal. Signature furnishings, tactile materials, and maritime influences appear with restraint, creating spaces designed as much for gathering as for lingering. Restaurants, lounges, sports facilities, and outdoor living areas unfold around the wave pool, while the landscape design by Maria João d’Orey introduces gardens, tree-lined pathways, and lush plantings that soften the presence of the city. The skyline remains visible, but no longer takes center stage. Rather than recreating a seaside setting, the project proposes a different relationship between nature and urban life. It offers a new vision for São Paulo, one where the ocean emerges as a state of mind rather than a destination.
