Brazilian Country Home

Conceived as a weekend retreat, this country residence by Sig Bergamin and Murilo Lomas offers a refined interpretation of Brazilian culture, grounded in identity, authenticity, and comfort, while reflecting the owners’ way of life and their Bahian and familial roots. The architecture opens to the gardens through timber pergolas, decks, and expansive sliding doors that merge the living room and veranda into a single living plane. Cedar sun loungers with terracotta cushions line the pool, while macramé curtains temper the light and soften the transition between indoors and out. Within, wood establishes the project’s material language across structure, finishes, and furniture. A palette of terracotta, beige, green, and blue is set in dialogue with works by Os Gêmeos, Zé Palito, Alberto Pitta, and a tapestry by Genaro de Carvalho. The furnishing scheme brings together distinct generations of Brazilian design, with pieces by Zanine Caldas, Lina Bo Bardi, Jorge Zalszupin, Jader Almeida, and Ricardo Van Steen, layered with artisanal elements and carefully selected textiles. Curved wooden armchairs, caned chairs, low cork tables, and fluid-pattern rugs structure the interiors, while blown glass, colored Murano, and bronze objects punctuate each space. The result is an interior in which architecture, art, and design operate as one continuous composition, celebrating the meeting of landscape, Brazilian culture, and a way of living centered on conviviality.
