Trancoso House
In Trancoso, this beachfront home begins with a clear premise: letting tropical architecture shape the way of living. Exposed timber structure, cross ventilation, and fluid transitions between indoors and outdoors keep the house in continuous dialogue with the landscape. A roof built from rustic timber logs establishes the material vocabulary from the moment of arrival. Inside, the language combines Brazilian modernism, craftsmanship, and everyday use with precise editing. In the main living room, generous upholstery is layered with ikats and ethnic florals, composed with white linen and tapestry. The curation brings together Brazilian design pieces, including an armchair by Sergio Rodrigues, patinated millwork, solid-wood furniture, handwoven textures, organically shaped tables, and collected objects. Wicker, basketry, and contemporary Brazilian design enter as a counterpoint of texture and scale. Natural-fiber rugs, often layered over kilims, organize the rooms; bamboo shades filter the light and reinforce the beachside atmosphere. A palette of white, blue, and controlled accents extends the reading of the surroundings. In the powder room, a handcrafted ceramic sink with hand-applied glazing and figurative elements takes center stage, set against classically designed metal fixtures. The result is a home where architecture and interiors operate as a single system, rustic in materiality, precise in curation, and deeply connected to place.
