Artsy Penthouse

In this gallery penthouse, Sig Bergamin and Murilo Lomas operate as curators before they operate as decorators. The project begins with a simple, demanding premise: the home should function as a collection in motion, where each room exists to support art while remaining fully livable. The foundation is classical, with generous upholstery, comfortable proportions, and a constant presence of period pieces, such as an 18th century bombe chest treated as domestic sculpture. Onto this framework comes a calculated mix of mid-century and contemporary design, with cleaner volumes and a graphic sensibility that keeps the interior from turning merely “historic” or overly “theatrical.” The palette plays on contrast, luminous whites against jewel tones. Velvets in deep greens, reds, and blues, along with geometric patterns and ikats, create tension and warmth. The dining room delivers the dramatic turn. Red walls establish an immersive field of color, turning the space into a set. Chairs and table read as line and form, while crystal light finishes the composition with controlled sheen. Art, naturally, sets the tempo. Names such as Alfredo Volpi and Cícero Dias provide a modern backbone, while Beatriz Milhazes and Adriana Varejão bring color, scale, and a sense of Brazilianness without literalism. Julio Le Parc and Luiz Zerbini broaden the vocabulary, moving between optics, landscape, and contemporary pulse. The home becomes a sequence of frames, with walls treated as curatorial surfaces and furniture chosen to converse rather than compete. It is a project that embraces the pleasure of mixing, grounded in proportion, texture, and a clear eye.
