Statement Penthouse
In this São Paulo penthouse, Sig Bergamin and Murilo Lomas begin with a clear brief: classicism as language, not nostalgia. The result is a layered interior where tradition, textiles, and contemporary art meet with discipline. From the start, the checkered floor in the entry hall and the traditionally lined staircase set the scene with a sense of rhythm and procession. Here, classicism is treated as an architecture of the eye, proportion, repetition, and movement, used to structure the home. On the first level, the living areas build a precise conversation between surfaces and upholstery. Florals, checks, and varied weaves overlap with ease, creating contrast and depth without noise. It is a classical maximalism sustained by texture and editing, where comfort comes before gesture. Art updates and sharpens the narrative. Works by Gerben Mulder, Maximilian Magnus, Mario Mauroner, Manolo Valdés, and Damien Hirst act as moments of focus and pause, giving the rooms their pulse and holding the mix with authority. In the study, the house shifts register. A generous room combining lounge seating and a workstation introduces modern pieces with a more masculine line, integrated with beige and brown textiles, with checked cushions as punctuation. Wood-paneled walls bring a darker, more contemporary tonality, offering a counterpoint to the rest of the penthouse and closing the project with balance between classical elegance and a distinctly current presence.
